State & Federal Insurance Legislative Issues Affecting Agents & Consumers

This one-hour webinar program will provide a review of the 2020 Nebraska legislative issues and a preview for 2021, as well as an update on federal legislation that affects insurance agents and consumers. Panelists will include:
Jim Cavanaugh, IIA of Nebraska's lobbyist, is a Douglas County Commissioner, practicing attorney and founding partner of the Cavanaugh Law Firm. He is also a member of the Douglas County Hospital Foundation Board, the Douglas County Health Center Board of Trustees and the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency Board. Previously, Jim served on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Repertory Theater, the Center for Missouri River Studies, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Omaha Irish Cultural Institute, Justice for Our Neighbors and the Mercy High School Capital Campaign.
John Deardorff is the chairman of the IIAN's Legislative Advisory Council. John is also a past IIA of NE president, a past InsurPac Board Trustee and has headed IIAN's Legislative Advisory Council (LAC) for six years. Council members provide valuable feedback to the IIAN Legislative committee to help guide IIAN's activity and position on multiple legislative issues. John has been honored with IIAN's Distinguished Service Award, as well as IIABA's national Sydney Smith legislative service award.
Nathan Riedel is the Vice President of Political Affairs for the Big "I". In that capacity he is responsible for tracking all congressional and presidential races, conducting interviews with candidates for federal office and organizing fundraising events for members of congress. He sits on a variety of steering committees for members of the U.S. Senate and House, and acts as treasurer for InsurPac, the multi-million dollar federal political action committee for the Big “I”. In addition to overseeing the InsurPac operation Riedel is responsible for engaging federal grassroots, both legislatively and politically. Prior to joining the association, Riedel served as a member of the National Republican Congressional Committee's finance team and worked for then U.S. Rep. John Ensign (R-Nev.) who went on to serve in the senate.
This course will provide one hour of P&C CE for Nebraska & Iowa, pending approvals.
